Berghof Foundation for Peace Support Located in Berlin, the capital city of Germany, BFPS was established in 2004. Initial impetus for the organisation grew out of the experiences of the Sri Lanka project, which was first undertaken and coordinated by the Berghof Research Center for Constructive Conflict Management (BRC). Given the achievements of this work in Sri Lanka, BRC subsequently was inspired to more broadly apply key insights from these experiences to other conflict zones. However, this decision to expand its activities to new regions moved beyond the organisation's sphere of activities and therefore required a new managing entity. Hence the creation of BFPS, which now fulfils this role. The Appeal collaborates with Berghof in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Lebanon and South-East Asia in support of national peace and dialogue processes; joint publication on worldwide peace structures; and on Shared Knowledge Creation initiatives. www.berghof-peacesupport.orgwww.berghof-handbook.net
Microsoft Humanitarian Systems Microsoft Humanitarian Systems (MHS) is an expeditionary team under Microsoft Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie, tasked with investigating and building working models of advanced solutions to address collaborative aspects of some of the most vexing, emotionally-charged, and least-served human interaction problems, including relief, development, conflict resolution, human trafficking, and human rights. The team is founded on the premise that significant, forward-looking collaborative solutions can emerge when they are designed for - and developed in - complex environments where networks are unreliable, equipment fails, trust is lacking, training is minimal, users are highly mobile, and information overload is the norm. The Appeal has a partnership with MHS on the development of Peace Tools and other software development initiatives in Nepal, Lebanon and the USA.
