Journal of Interreligious Studies Publishes "Treat the Stranger as Your Own: Religious Prosociality and Conflict Transformation"
The Peace Appeal's Jeff Seul explores recent social scientific research that sheds new light on the relationship among religion, conflict, and cooperation. Recent research regarding religion’s capacity to promote cooperation within groups also is yielding insights into how religion can help promote cooperation between groups—a development that has received scant attention among experts in the emerging field of religious peacebuilding, or within the broader international relations community    The entire article may be found online here.

ABA's Dispute Resolution Magazine Publishes "Negotiating Across Worldviews" in its Fall 2018 Issue.
The Peace  Appeal's  Co-Chair, Jeff Seul's explores how our "worldview" influences our ability to interact and negotiate with others.  Seul defines worldviews as, "the mental models we hold, more and less consciously, about how the natural and social worlds cohere, what makes them cohere, what is valued and what is not, and even what we can know and how we know it."    The entire article may be found online here.

Common Space Initiative and Al-Zaytouna Center for Studies and Consultations publish "The Ongoing UNRWA Crisis: Context, Dimensions, Prospects and Responses
The Peace  Appeal's Lebanon partner, the Common Space Initiative issued the sixth report in its Policy Dialogue Series on Lebanese-Palestinian Relations this past August exploring the ongoing crisis facing UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine).  The report covers the history of UNRWA, its present financial crisis and efforts to close the agency and merge it with UNHCR by Israel and the United States.   The full report may be found here.

Common Space Initiative Publishes "Conditions of Return for the Syrian Refugees in Lebanon"

The Peace  Appeal's Lebanon partner, the Common Space Initiative published a booklet detailing the findings of a study documenting and analyzing the current conditions of return for Syrian refugees in Lebanon to their "areas of origin" inside Syria as of July 2018.  The study looked at seven criteria in assessing conditions across the country.  It's aim is to contribute to the current discussion of the prospects for return given the changing situation on the ground.  As the report states, "the last two years have been marked with shifts in military power.  This turn of events made way for a new state that affected both the possible scenarios of a peaceful solution and the foundation of the associated policies regulating the return process."
